Eddy Plaizer and the Ace Manufacturing racing team told SpeedZone that their new team-mate, three time IHRA Funny Car world Champion Rob Atchison will compete on the West Coast at Mission Raceway's Lucas Oil event as well as the National Open there in 2009. How cool is that!!!!!

December 14, 2008

On sale now!!

Calendar info is to the left. The price has......believe it or not, gone down! Very limited numbers are available this year due to increased costs overall. But we have lowered the price by 10% due to the economic climate, and to thank all our loyal customers. In order to guarantee your copy order before Christmas. Shipping will commence just before Christmas (hopefully) but likely between Christmas and the New Year.

Division Six banquet was last night and along with all the usual awards a couple big announcements were announced. The biggest was the decision to move the ETf inals to only the big tracks in the division. Aschroft set to host in 2010 was left off the schedule and Yakima in 2009 was moved to Woodburn. A tough pill to swallow for the 'Plex for sure especially due to their resurgence in the last two years. I am sure we will hear comments from the management. Mission will likely get the race in 2010or 2011, based on past schedules. Spokane will be on the schedule as well. It is ironic that the 'Plex won "Summit Track of the Year" and is out of the rotation. Seattle is still trying to get their management team in order, and the MAJOR TRACK in the NW better get their act totgether soon or Spokane will take over the reigns as the premier drag strip in the NW. Pat Austin, the NW Hall of Fame award inductee was very well spoken and was the hit of the evening. Boise's Firebird won the big prize, Div 6 'Track of the Year", as well as the National Dragster prize for best coverage in the NHRA publication . Calendars are coming along and will be ready for shipping before the end of December.

December 11, 2008

Here is a very cool tribute for Scott Kalitta. Possibly the best tribute I have seen. It is part of what would been Scott's annual foray to Australia for the big Sydney Drag Race event. It includes the NHRA banquet memorial. Check out all the links on the site.

December 8, 2008

Calendars are close to being ready for internet sales. Doorslammer one is ready now, but will have buying info up early next week. Hoping the Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car, Pro Mod and Top Alcohol will be ready for shipping just before Christmas

Cool deal here as Alberta's Ace Manufacturing sponsors Rob Atchison for the next three years.

November 30, 2008

Stefan Kondolay takes two dragsters to the semi finals in Super Pro at the Strip Saturday. Winds up in the finals with one and unfortunately goes .004 red in the $7500 to win final. In the 64,000 race he goes out in the early rounds. On Friday he goes to round six in Super Pro. As far as other Canadian drivers and Div six competitors, Vicki Strell is out early both days, Dennis Boley (Div 6 cert team) goes to round four on Saturday. Div Seven director Mike Rice competes and has a good run Friday going to round five before Kondolay takes his out.

Canada West Doorslammer banquet was up last night and a great time was had by all. Grant Howell was the big winner taking home the series title and close to $4000 in cash and prizes. Series member Layne Wooley and his band performed through the night and they were great. Photos on the Doorslammer site later this week.

November 24, 2008

IHBA final results are posted.

What a weekend at Vegas. Lots of good and a lot of bad as oil downs were the pre-dominant winner on Sunday. It got so bad that they ran 1/8 mile for the later rounds. Larry will have all the stories in a couple days. He has so much stuff on the site it shut down. Here is the actual link to HH's coverage (it may not load until tomorrow). Here are the final numbers courtesy the PSCA site. Photos should come over the next few days.

November 23, 2008

IHBA Finals Sunday gallery is posted.

Quite possibly THE most oil downs at an event in recent memory at the Street Car Super Nationals in Vegas today. So many in fact they turned the event into an 1/8 mile semi finals and finals. Around 300 cars and it was not even close to being finished by dark and the weather was quite cool after 4:00pm with temperatures in the 50's.

Full results Monday afternoon.

The Boat Drags also saw many delays on Sunday with the finals not completed until dusk. Full results up Monday afternoon as well. First round of the Pro classes are posted.

Saturday gallery from Phoenix (IHBA World Finals) is here. Spectacular photos courtesy Mark King.

Final qualifying results from the Drag Boats World Finals are here.

Vegas Street Car final qualifying is here. All the Canadians (except Roy Lazic, his first time out with new car ) made the field in Pro Street. Both Moznik Bros. went career bests, as did Rash Dhaliwal. Jay went 6.59. Other NW drivers who are in the field include, Frank Tamez 6.42, Brian Lane 6.52 , JR Carr 6.44, Garrett Richards 6.68, Lyle Kennedy (6.93). Kennedy broke and could not make round one. Results are here

November 22, 2008

According to the live timing go1320 site at Phoenix just 30 minutes ago, the Nitro Chicken Top Fuel Hydro piloted by Doug Verstuyft made the quickest lap ever in the 1/4 mile liquid or asphalt. A stunning 4.27@ 243. Trying to confirm at this time.

At Vegas Pro Street is close to an all time record for a 32 car bump. and Mike Moran is becoming Mr consistent in the turbo-charged war. Back to back 6 teens.

Two big events this weekend despite the NHRA and IHRA closed for holidays.

The World finals for the liquid 1/4 mile at Firebird in Phoenix. IHBA coverage is here.

The SCSN (Street car nationals from Las Vegas) coverage is here. Go to HH for extensive coverage and photos daily.

November 18, 2009

November 16, 2008

What a final day for the 2009 NHRA season!!

Click on the logo for finals coverage here at SpeedZone.

....Team orders for the Vance and Hines team, as Andrew Hines let's Eddie Krawiec take him out in the semis, giving Krawiec the title, Since Smith losat a round earlier. Chris Rivas finishes second in the standings behind Krawiec, after taking him out in the final round. Team orders were not a factor in FC, and Cruz Pedregon some what deserves the title (sentimental choice is Tim Wilkerson though), after winning the last three races of the season, including today's final. He defeated Ron Capps on a holeshot. Greg Anderson wins Pro Stock today over a red lighting Kurt Johnson. With the win he takes second place over Johnson. Larry Dixon wins Top Fuel over Rod Fuller. Dixon winds up second in the standings. Tony "Shoe" was a surprise second round loser. A great way for Dixon finish off his career with the "Snake". He will pilot Alan Johnson Al-Anabi backed team in 2009. Jim Whitely wins the TAD fianl over world Champ Bill Reichert. Reichert ripped the hearts out of the BAD's this weekend in the semis with a 5.17/282 win over Duane Shields, Shields got a bird's eye view of the second fastest run in history. #1 and #2 qualifiers faced off in TAFC, with #2 Mick Snyder getting the break when Steve Harker broke a fuel line on the fire up.

Steve Kelly wins the world Summit championship in Pro Bracket. Eagle Motoplex rep Jim Sibley has troubles on the starting line in Motorcycle and goes out in the first round. All the full results tomorrow.

Round two TA classes........Shawn Cowie losses to Reichert in the fastest pass by a TAD in 2008. A 5.249/278 to a quicker leaving 5.333/268 by Cowie. Two blown cars remain and that is Jim Whitley who went 5.32 in his win and Cody Perkins with a 5.38. Duane Sheilds is there as well. If he wins the race he will move into fourth in the standings. Cowie finishes #8 in the world, the best finish for a Canadian TAD driver in decades. Roger Bateman finishes #4 in the world, that too is the best finish by a Canadian in a long time.

Pomona..........................Big upsets and Funny Car is decided in round one! I was wrong on all fronts. Summit finals start around 2.

November 15, 2008

Saturday qualifying is posted along with photos

Should have posted yesterday but big change to the IHRA sportsman classes for 2009 Click here for more details.

Click on the logo for finals coverage here at SpeedZone.

Day two qualifying from Pomona is here.

Note: Mike Ferderer lost in round two in Super Gas making Brian Forrester the world champ.

November 13, 2008

No"5" second pass for Kaplan on day one. It is too warm at Pomona.

The final race of the 2008 POWERade is season on!! AAA Finals coverage is here.

November 12, 2008

Photos from the Vegas Divisional will be posted on Friday

November 10, 2008

Shawn Cowie wins the toughest Divisional event in the NHRA taking out Mark Niver in the final. If only the win would have counted towards divisional and or national points. He is out of Divisional events to claim. He had strong lights throughout the event as well, and looks to be jelling heading into Pomona. He likely will need to run low 30's or high 20's to have a legitimate shot

Dick Vandermeer went out in round three giving Stefan Kondolay the Super Comp championship. Bob Marshall went to the semi finals in Comp, He lost a close one to Dan Fletcher. The kid can drive. Roger Bateman got timed out in what likely would have been an easy win against Jay Payne in the semis as Payne was way off pace. Frank Nelson went to round three in Top Sportsman.

November 9, 2008

Rain halts racing at Vegas Sunday with one round in for most classes. Dick Vandermeer is still in SC, going to round three. So Stefan Kondolay will still have to wait to find out if he is a four time champion. Cowie is still in, in TAD and Roger Bateman looks to be the man ro beat in TAFC.

An exclusive interview with the North West Hitter is here, All the dirt on Spokane, Nostalgia Funny Car racing and the top Alcohol classes.

November 8, 2008

6.06/225 for Kaplan in the final qualifier, what else can you say!!! He says he will run a five at Pomona! So much for that classes competitors, but I say good on ya Jirka!!

Cowie remained #4 with his BAD, Four BAD's and four A/FD's in the field with one more session to go. Marshall makes the field in B/AA. Canadians at Vegas include Ed Plaizer bowing out in Top Dragster in round one. A stout 7.28 bump. No info as to whether or not Kondolay went to Vegas but, the only guy in the field who can catch him for the Divisional championship in Super Comp is more than capable and that is Dick Van Der Meer and he is off to round two. He needs to go to round six to take the title. The only gal who can catch him is Violet Larsen and she has to go to the final to tie and win the event to win the title

Vegas Friday qualifying is here

Friday qualifying at Vegas ends with a stout 5.43 bump in TAD and a wack of hitters not yet in the show. Local Shawn Cowie leads the blown cars with a strong 5.35/269. TAFC is just as tough, with a 5.80 bump, and a similar number of strong cars outside. Top Sportsman is also the largest field in NHRA history with the first full field (it will be full as 47 cars ran today. A couple more expected Saturday.

Las Vegas Divisional ..............................Wow, is all I can say today as Comp's (AA/GS also) Jirka Kaplan annihilates the national record in AA/AM going 6.12/223 mph. The fastest and quickest non Pro Mod pass in history. 1.003 under the index. Washington's Mark Wolfe looks slow with his awesome 6.463/220.65 mph lap in his AA/AT. Wolfe was .689 under. The largest Top Dragster field in NHRA history with 77 cars in round one. 100 in Stock and 81 in Super Stock.

November 5, 2008

Looks like there will be a seventh divisional event here in Div Six as Spokane tentatively has one for 2009. It will follow MRP's event in Early June.

This tidbit and a whole lot more as SpeedZone has an exclusive interview with the NW Hitter. Coming out in the next few days. He talks about Spokane, and the events planedd for 2009 (some surprises for sure) his Nitro racing career, his all new A/Fuel dragster, the sport in general and lots of other good stuff. Check back, it should be up by Saturday.

In other big NHRA news, confidential sources have confirmed to SpeedZone that Larry Dixon is the lucky S.O.A.G. who will pilot Alan Johnson's new Top Fuel car for the Al-Anabi /Johnson team in 2009.

So that means Spencer Massey will take over his reigns at Snake racing sooner than expected. Dixon was seen at a prominent chassis shop getting fitted for the new dragster(s). Also on the TF front, sources say that Hillary Will is close to securing major sponsorship with the Ken Black Top Fuel team. Hopefully she can end the year in ten days in second place in the standings, a huge feat considering the tough year she has last season.

November 3, 2008

Vegas is complete and only one National event remains, the finals at Pomona.

At Vegas, Tony Shoe wrapped up the most dominant Top Fuel season in history. Yes he has one more race to win and he likely will, but he has 15 wins and the most round wins in history. Jeg Coughlin has basically won Pro Stock, his second title in a row. Funny car will come down to the wire, with Cruz leading and Wilk as well as Robert Hight right on his heals. Six different driver still have a shot. The full results are here.

Division six competitor Curt Geise was r/u in Super Gas. Local driver Zak Clarke went out in round two with a .006 red light. Marv Weibe went .004 and had a .022 pakage but was taken out in round four. Bob Marshall qualified #23 in Comp but went out in round one going red as well.

This weekend sees the final divisional of the year back at Vegas with a car count close to 1000 expected. A number of Divison Six competitors will be in attendance with five or six classes in the North West to be decided. .

October 21, 2008

The City of Spokane approved Bucky Austin's proposal for leasing the Spokane Racetrack. Jay Livingston will be the manager. Go here for more info.

The 2009 Lucas Oil schedule is released..Mission's Divisional event is May 22-24

October 20, 2008

News for North West Drag Racing ........The "North West Hitter" is the front runner to take over operations at Spokane. Bucky Austin's proposal is a 25 year lease which includes over 2 million in impprovements.

October 19, 2008

Long time between updates here at SpeedZone as big time deadlines in my construction business has put many Speedzone updates on hold. Calendar time is also closing in and this year most versions will be out close to a month early. Looks like we will have a new one out this year as well, with Nostalgia Funny Cars on the docket. Mark King the Nostalgia Funny car web site guru will partner up with SpeedZone to produce the first ever Nostalgia Funny Car Calendar. Top Sportsman/Doorslammer, Top Alcohol, Pro Mod and likely the most popular Hemi calendar will be out by late November. All interested participants for all versions can contact us for all the details.

Huge kudo's to Manitoba's Kenny Lang for clinching the IHRA World Pro Mod championship today. He went to round three at Rockingham, but his title was decided in round one when Mike Castellana lost in round one.

A big congrat's to Edmonton's Tim Boychuk, as he wins his second Top Fuel event in the IHRA. The world finals this weekend wrapped up with Boychuk defeating Mike Strasburg. Boychuk finished 7th with the win today running only 5 of 10 events. Rookie driver and new Top Fuel team member on the Snake team, Spencer Massey won the 2008 Top Fuel championship.

A true underdog and independent for most of his Funny Car career, Terry Haddock celebrates his first (and possibly last) IHRA Funny Car world title. Terry is married to Division six Super Comp/Top Dragster driver Ed Hauter's daughter Bambie, also the niece of Bernie and Rhona Plourd. Unfortunately the last title in the IHRA, because the rumor is the IHRA Funny Car class will not happen in 2009. I think it would be sad in the class does not continue.

Calgary's Roger Bateman won the Division four event at Noble Oklahoma, pretty much clinching the Division five TAFC championship. He moves up to #4 in the National standings.

All the season champions locally both at Mission Raceway and the Eagle Motorplex are at their respective sites. Division six title are clinched for sure in TAD (Joey Severance). Others basically clinched are in Comp (Doug Lambeck)and Super Gas (Mike Ferderer). Local drivers Stefan Kondolay is in the driver's seat in Super Comp, Shawn Cowie finishes second in the division in TAD and has a great chance at a top eight finish nationally. Horsepower Heaven has all the details.

Division 6 wraps up its Divisional season at Medford and both top classes, Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car are both tight battles as are the nine sportsman classes.

The biggest deal this weekend (particularly today Friday) is my 8 yr old daughter Shelby's first foray down the 1/4 mile, as she, thanks to "RAD Torque Systems" and Chief Dan George Middle School, is going to get her first taste of Jr. Dragster racing. I will let you know later today or tomorow what her and my experience watching my younger go down the track. If all goes well, she may run on the weekend as well.

People and misc gallery

Sept. 3, 2008

The US Nationals galleries will be posted starting Thursday.

Things have quieted down on the ET Finals front, with only a couple replies back. It looks like we will take a wait and see stance, as likely there will be firm changes made in writing so issues that have manifested themselves this year and years in the past do not happen again. In my opinion, there is no fault to the drivers the fault lies with the system and lack on enforcement. Glendora is as much or more responsible than anyone. The tracks will have to start playing by the rules as well.

Sept. 2, 2008

Looks like the crap has the potential to really hit the fan with all the yack about the players who competed at Boise and their legalities to do so. As I have talked about before and went into it a bit in my ET finals editorial, the system is too easy to manipulate and the brass involved are to wary to make a stand. They want to please everyone but in the end there are still po'ed racers. Like Larry said today or last night over at his site, it is tough to have the gonads to bring this story to the forefront, simply because in the end, both he and I know where our bread is buttered. If all you readers insist on this getting out in the open, then this is what has to happen in order for me to expose this,. You have to send me facts (like one racer did already), and you have to be able to be named as a source in this. If I take the heat, you have to back me up. But I need more than one or two examples. I need a few of them so I can go to the brass and say what are you going to do about it.

The NHRA sandbox is quite exclusive as far as media goes, you piss them off there is a good chance you pay the price. But if a bunch of people band together, it would not be as deadly me thinks.

If I get no response to this request I will do what has been done for well over a decade on this deal, LET IT SLIDE!!!!

Email me if you dare.

August 31, 2008

Highlights included the first ever 300 mph pass in BC history, a 5.14 @ 311 mph by Chuck Haynes' Volcano. The wheelstanders were awesome, Frank Tamez goes 6.66/@10 in his first full lap in Pro Street, Barry Daniluck debuted his new Bickel Camaro to the tune of a 6.75 in Doorslammer action. Thanks to RAD for their sponsorship of this weekend's coverage. All the results and photos over the next couple days.

August 21, 2008

Seattle Sportsnationals mini race report courtesy Jamie Clerf is posted.

Top Alcohol gallery is here

Sportsman gallery is here

This weekend's event at Mission Raceway includes Jet Dragster and potentially the first ever 300 mph run. Three Wheelstanders including newly licensed Mike Kunz in the Wheelie Fun 57 Cameo, Pro Street which will have a large number of entrants like the National Open event. The only one lacking is Dal Sangha due to the unfortunate crash at Port Alberni.

A coupled rviers will be out at Mission this weekend matching Terry Spargos huge monter powerplant One is the all new 68 Camaro with a 820 cu.in Ron Miller monster between the Jerry Bickel built Camaro. The other is a surprise entrant with a Chevy II and a 825 cu in Hemi. Not sure whether or not he is going to run DoorSlammer or P.Street.

Speaking of the Canada West Doorslammers, they are in their second to last race of the year. The standings in their series is very close, with as many as seven drivers still in the hunt for the title. There is 10 rounds of racing left and the top seven are less than five rounds apart. THis weekend's race is presented by Jim's Automotive.

August 20, 2008

A Pro gallery from Reading (Toyo Tires Nationals) is posted.

August 17, 2008

Reading NHRA final round results are posted. Photos will be up starting tomorrow

A huge Congrat's to Dale Giroux for his Comp win at Acton Montana. It was his first or second race ever in Comp, and to get the win over guys in the field like Rob Harrison and Lou Ficco is very impressive. Shawn Cowie runner-ups there in TAD and John Evanchuk goes to the semis. Full results later tonight. Same with Reading results.

How much did the Seattle big buck bracket race affect the car count at Acton. Unofficial numbers from the Lucas Oil event total only 143 cars (not including the bracket classes). Ashcroft should be lobbying to get the event back perhaps. They would get more cars. The big hurdle would be the track surface work that would have to be done. It is pretty good but there are a couple bumps that would have to be addressed. I have heard from a few racers in the past that they would not travel to that event again (the Canyon scared the crap out of a lot of them. It the travel cost more to Ashcroft for the majority of drivers than the travel to Acton. I am sure the Division director has looked at and explored the possibilities on both sides. Mission would be greatly suited to host two of the events. Why not go back to seven in the division.

Let the fur fly!!!

Stefan Kondolay wins 10K (Super Pro) Andy Morris was r/u (004 to 009 lights) at Seattle. Jody Lang wins 4K in (Pro) (Saturday results)

Steve Kelly was winner and r/u in Pro Friday (had two cars) and finished third Saturday.

August 16, 2008

Boise's Nightfire Nationals Funny Car story and photos (courtesy Mark King)

August 15, 2008

Billings Div 6 Lucas Oil event is up this weekend .

Results for the Toyo Tires Nationals from Reading.

Also up is the second night drags of the year from Ashcroft, and the big buck bracket race at Seattle. From Jamie Clerf in Seattle,

Gents...down here at Seattle racing at the big bracket race. Not sure on winners and such, but wanted to report great first day of racing here with a really good atmoshphere and a lot of enthusiasm. Car count is pretty darn good I would say and heard figures of around 200 or so entries and dollars generated above the 50K mark.

Canadians in attendance include myself (3rd rd today), Viki Strell (2nd rd, I think), Stefan Kondolay (few rds I think), and then AB folks like Scott Taylor and Garnet Rose. I also saw Mission regular Phil Marvetz go quite a few rds.

Tomorrow we go for 4K in Pro and 10K for the Super Pro Folks. It looks like another hot one...our weather station almost touched 97 F today!

Still trying to get all the pro mod info from Boise. I heard Rod Pearce won and Ross Hogenson was the r/u. Billy Harper shattered the track record in qualifying (6.19/227)

Tony Schumacher (TF), Tony Pedregon (FC), Kurt Johnson (PS), Matt Smith (PSM), Mick Snyder (TAFC) and Brandon Lewis (TAD/A/F) were the winners at Brainerd Minn. Next up for the Full Throttle series is The Toyo Tires Nationals at Reading Penn, then it is the US Nationals at Indy. SpeedZone will have photogs at the next two races.

``The Thunder in the Valley`` Port Alberni page is updated. Galleys and complete results Monday evening.

August 10, 2008

A pretty cool weekend on the Island comes to an end. Canada West Doorslammer results are posted here. The Island's Bob McKernan takes out Rob Charlton in the final. The Alberni drag racing assoc. donates $1500.00 to Dal Sangha's rebuild fund. Fans donate to the fund as well.

It must be gallery day as one more is up, this time it is a bunch of great shots from both Sonoma and Seattle's national event from the stands courtesy Dianne Jeffery. Bill you have competition!

The final (4th) Mission Loafers gallery is posted.

Gallery 3 from Mission Raceway is posted.

The second gallery from the Mission Loafer race is posted (Dean Murdoch photos). This one is the balance of all the Gassers and the other exhibition cars. The next gallery will be the final rounds and show car winners. The final galery will the all the other class cars.

The first gallery from the Loafers event is posted. (Bill Jeffery Photos). This one includes the Mitch Chamberlin Crash sequence. Mitch is okay and the car looks to be repairable.

August 3, 2008

A final Sonoma wrap-up (on the road with the Jeffery's). One more gallery from the Seattle/Sonoma events will be posted on Monday.

To no surprise, Howard Anderson takes the AA/GS title at the Mission Loafers event. He goes as low as 6.66 in round one, and 6.73 in the final to take out Gary Reniero in the final. Mitch Chamberlin in the "Lucky One" Willys was very unlucky, as he wrecks his gasser in round one. Will have a photo sequence of that crash courtesy of Bill Jeffery tonight or tomorrow. Mitch is absolutely okay and the car despite the nasty look of the crash, is not too badly damaged.

Here are a few of the other winners: from memory, Nathan Wieler SC/C, John Lackie SM/B, John West SM/A, Zak Liston SC/A, and Doug Steele, Outlaw. (not a complete list as I forgot the finals sheet).

Photos Monday.

IHRA Martin Final results are posted. A highlight was Mike Castellana going 6.000 in his nitrous Pro Mod. Oh so close to the magic 5's.

August 2, 2008

Langley Loafers Old Time Drags at Mission Raceway.

Howard Anderson is light years ahead of the rest of the pack in the AA/Gassers. He went 6.73. The next closest is 7.03 after two rounds. One more round Sunday Morning. A huge number of cars at MRP, but unfortunately a once a year race for a number of cars turned into carnage all day long as four or five major oil downs end the day with only a few cars into their third time trial session by 7:00pm. Hopefully Sunday goes better for what is a great car turnout this year. Here is the home page.

Martin Mich IHRA event final qualifying. Hoover wins Pro Mod shoot-out despite the quickest run in history ( Mike Castellana goes 6.009 and red lights) by a Nitrous Car.

Division 7 Sonoma event. Woo baby, a 5.73 does not qualify in TAFC, and a 5.46 bump in TAD.

The rest of the Mission Open results and a sportsman gallery will be posted Sunday night and Monday.

July 20, 2008

A long weekend at the races turned out to be even longer as a fatal crash on HWY 1 at Hells Gate forced a three hour detour Sunday afternoon. Due to this unfortunate turn of events and the fact it is 11:00pm I will leave all the major results until Monday including a bunch of photos from both Seattle and Ashcroft.

In short a grreat weekend at the 'Plex despite an bit of a short car count for the 1st annual "Lucas Oil" Nostalgia Drags. It was a very fun event, and the night life Saturday was outstanding. March Hare is an extraordinary entertaining live band and they put on a great show. Mike Kuntz in the "Murphy, Grocock, and Kuntz" wheelstander put on a great show, as did all the Blown alcohol teams in attendance. Thanks go out to ERA for their generosity.

Full results tomorrow.

Hey Zak, You rock dude!!

At Pacific, Tony Shoe wins again and a long over due win by Tony Bartone highlights the Shuck's Nationals. Jason Line, Mark Niver and Brian Hough round out the pro winners. Brad Vinje goes to the semi finals, Shawn Cowie does the same. Full results are here. Photos on Monday.

July 18, 2008

Latest Dale Creasy update:

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Dale Creasy, Jr. underwent a second successful surgery yesterday in Edmonton.
Doctors performed the three hour surgery to continue the reconstruction process of his left leg. Dale will undergo an additional surgery on Thursday.

"His spirits are really good," long-time friend Terry McMillen said after a conversation with Creasy. "I was kidding him about how he's going to be in great shape after all of this rehab. I told him I was going to have to get a trainer just to keep up with him. He just laughed and said that I'd have to give him at least one day of looking better than me."

The Creasy family would also like to send 'get well wishes' to crew member Denny Jameson. Denny underwent successful prostate cancer surgery. Denny is recovering in a Chicago area hospital.

Well wishers are welcome to drop a post to Dale at Get Well Peanut www.getwellpeanut.com or drop him an email at getwelldale@dalecreasyjr.com. Cards and letters are welcome and may be sent to:

Here is the winner from the nitro funny car final at Edmonton Monday afternoon. Matt Hagan was basically helpless, but fortunately for Hagan, his opponent, Grant Downing was having his own issues, and finally hit the 1000 foot cone disqualifying him. Perry Nelson photo.

Monday 1:00pm Final round pro results are posted from Edmonton.

12 noon Dale Creasy update.

"Creasy suffered broken bones in his right foot that will require a cast. His left leg suffered a crushed shin and a compound fracture that will require surgery. Creasy is scheduled for surgery between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Mountain Time at Royal Alexandra Hospital".

While it likely will be a long recovery it is overall pretty good news.

10:50 pm update.... The Nitro coupe final pairing between Grant Downing and Matt Hagan was set to go off , both had done their burnouts and were set to stage, when the skies opened up again. With the cold tempertures (air and track) and the time of night, i think it is done for the night.

In Alcohol Funny Car, Laurie Cannister turned arond her qualifying woes and won the final from the left lane with a solid 5.90 againt Paul Noakes. She went 5.84 in that same suspect lane in her semi final win against Tom Carter.

Sunday evening update.............Dale Creasy was seriously hurt in the semi finals against Grant Downing in Nitro Funny Car. Both cars seem to be side by side at half track then Dale slowed pulled the chutes and came to a stop near the end of the track. Safety personel and the ambulance went down track and it was determined the the cannon clutch had let go and the reverser tore off its mounts. Shrapnel hit Dale's in the lower extremities with possible serious lacerations and fractures. No word one whether one or both legs were injured. He was life flighted to University Hospital in Edmonton and was conscious at the time. More word when we hear it.

Long rain delay at Edmonton Sunday is almost done at &:00 pm Mountain time, Looks like we have a couple hour window to get the pro classes completed Sunday Night. Let's hope so!

Updated info on Ken Mostowich.... Good news, as the earlier info stating his condition was not as serious as posted. He did suffer a concussion and has a sore back, but is generally feeling okay. That is good news for sure.

R.I.P. SCOTT KALITTA

1962 - 2008

June 22, 2008

Finally this day is done.

With the death of Scott Kalitta at the top of the list as a very bad weekend of Drag Racing, Word out of Seattle was Ken Mostowich had a bad crash at the Divisional and not only wrecked his car but he was hurt quite badly as well. Will have word up as soon as possible on Ken. Also heard from Terry Spargthis evening and he hurt his Cavalier just off the starting line in the final qualifier. Here are his words on his deal as well as Mostowich's who was pitted next door to Spargo: "Ken's Fram oil filter exploded in the lights, and the subsequent crash that not only severly damaged his gorgeous Cavalier but hurt the man badly".

"On my deal, my incident was minor toHis and the unfortunate happenings at Englishtown, but on my last qualifieer Saturday, It would have been a 6.70 pass as indicated by Frank Tamez's improvement, I had my steel driveshaft tear apart on the launch, 12 inches from the third member, and severe the wishbone track locator, sending shrapnall through the rear tire, cut the brake lines and destroy the racepak driveshaft speed indicator amung a number of other issues. I have to talk to RJ tommorow and it will be a thrash to be ready for next Saturday's Doorslammer race. I'm meeting with Gord Schmidt tomorrow morning so he can get a handle on the repairs. Friday and Saturday had air temps at 90 degrees and track surfaces at 125 degrees and 2000' air, our 6.75 passes looked pretty good. But as Dave Richardson said to me this morning, with all the cloud cover I would have seen my first 6.60 today. I had back to back 1.01 60' with the added tuneups we did, both increasing stall speeds and timing".

As far as the results from Seattle, Stefan Kondolay won Super Comp; Add that in with his win in the same class at Mission, and you have the second Super class where Stefan looks to be THE MAN!!!. Jerry Epp was runner up in Super Street, John Witmore won Super GAs, Doug Lambeck won Comp, Randy Johnson won Top Sportsman, Blu Hyball won Top Dragster, Mark Faul won Stock, Jimmy Defrank won Super Stock, Doug Rathbun won Motorcycle, Dennis Taylor wins TAFC and Duane Shields gets the TAD win. More on the race in the next couple days.

At Englishtown, the winners who likely did not celebrate too much were as follows: Tony Schumacher (TF), Tim Wilkerson (FC),Greg Anderson (PS),Chip Ellis (PSM), Dianne HArker (TAD), Frank Manzo (TAFC), and Josh Hernandez (PM). Full results are here.

June 22, 2008

In Comp during round one at Seattle, Casey Plaizer takes out the #1 qualifier Rob Harrison with a huge holeshot .20 light and a .55 under in Ken Reich's C/SMA. The kid can drive for sure.

Also at Seattle, Duane Shields wins TAD and Dennis Taylor who got in on the last qualifier, sets out a message that they found a tune-up as Dennis rips off a career best 5.56/259 to defeat Sean O'Bannon who got loose and took out the 330 cone

The worst possible news today from Englishtown. Scott Kalitta has a horrific crash after a fiery explosion at the finish line. The car continued at a high rate of speed through the shut down area and sand trap and into a field where the car continued to burn. He was transported to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival due to multiple injuries. Very sad news indeed. Scott leaves behind wife Kathy and sons Corey and Colin.

Crash shown here on You Tube.

June 8, 2008

The weekend at the Eagle Motorplex started out so promising with a huge car count of race cars and show n shine vehicles. Saturday was a great day and Sunday morning was great, then the rains came just after noon. They continued until 4:00 pm when the race was finally called and postponed until the July 19-20 weekend. Stayed tuned for a couple huge galleries form Saturday and Sunday morning.

The Jeg's and National event at Chicago is complete with Division six finishing in the middle of the pack . Division 1 won the tie breaker. Tom Bayer won the TAD Dragster Jeg's portion. Adam Bowdish went to the semis as did Tommy Gaynor and Mike Coltrin.

Shawn Cowie qualified well Top Half second quickest Blown car but went out in round one on a holeshot to Tom Bayer. Brian Hough lost in round one as well. Full results and photos starting Monday night.

MRP did not have a good weekend either for their IMPORT INVASION. Weather kept the Asian and European rides off the track.

The Jrs did run on Sunday but with the bad weather all over only a dozen diggers made the call at MRP. All the results from the Jrs are here.

June 2, 2008

Unfortunately the National Open Day two at the 'Plex was washed out. They will re-schedule the race (for the Brackets only) to July 12. No NHRA classes only the brackets, Jrs. and Sports Compact. Because eliminations had not started, the race is open to racers who did not make it to the weekend's event. Large payout and wallys (payout based on Car count)

The Doorslammers did get their race off at Seattle on Sunday. With Saturday beng a complete wash out there, qualifying and eliminations were run on Sunday. Lloyd Flatum won his second consecutive event and Steve Downs (one of the race sponsors) was the runner-up. All the results at their site.

Hopefully this coming weekend at the 'Plex for the "Langley Loafers Old Time Drags" sees good weather for the entire weekend. The Big Rig Group and Lucas Oil Canada are the sponsors of this weekend's Old Time Drags. SpeedZone will be there is full force updating the event adding photos and even have our photo printer on site so you can get high quality photos up to 8x10 on site. While you wait.

June 1, 2008

Shawn Cowie went to round three at Topeka where he lost on a holeshot to Chris Demke. Demke then proceeded to loss with a bad light in the final to first time winner Mark Niver.

In the Alky floppers, Sean O/Bannon runner-upped for the second weekend in a row. He lost to Steve Harker in the final. Hillary Will won for the first time in Top Fuel. Way to go girl! John Force got the victory in Funny Car and Ron Krisher was the surprise winner in Pro Stock.

At the Eagle Motorplex, The National Open double header saw close to 150 cars go through the turnstiles.

On Saturday, John Evans won in Top Comp over Joe Mura, Frankie Plaizer (way to go girl!) won Super Comp over Darrell Baker, Jerry Epp defeated Casey Plaizer in Super Street, Mike Shannon defeated Todd Sims in Super Gas and in. Combo saw Joe Graves take out avid Rastad (two r/u's in a row for Rastad). For the bracket classes, Jason Gibson defeated Al Quigley in Super Pro, Glen Parkinson won Pro over Chris Stone and Don Elgin got the victory in Sportsman over Brian Thompson Bike/Sled winner was Tyler Tingle. He defeated Chris Knight. For the Jrs., Holly Clarke and Justin Gibson were the winners in Lightning and Thunder respectively and the runner-ups were Chris Hanson and Chris Cannon.

May 31, 2008

The Cowie TAD team travelled all the way to Topeka Kansas after their runner-up finish here at MRP last week. They rewarded themselves with their first ever #1 qualifying effort at a National event. A great 5.33 @ 266 mph. It is against most of the best Blown cars in North Amercia and many of the top A/Fuel teams as well. Hopefully they can parlay that effort into a very late run in eliminations. Congrat's Shawn, Ron, Bill and the rest of the crew. Todd Hoener got in on Saturday (#15) as well in Pro Stock.

In a surprise to everyone including the prognosticator himself (me), go to the Top Alcohol qualifying story and see the predictions for eliminations to see not only to see who was picked to be the winner in the final in TAD and TAFC, but also to see who the opponents would be. Can't think of when I got all four picks right.

Perhaps one of Mission's best divisionals in recent memory ended a few hour
